Telefónica stood out as one of the leaders in International Corporate Responsibility in “The Sustainability Yearbook 2009” presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the firm Sustainable Asset Management (SAM) at the 2009 World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland).
The report by PwC and SAM analysed two areas: how companies deal with economic, social and environmental opportunities and how they manage risks in these fields.
The analysis, covering 367 companies from 57 sectors, placed 20 Spanish companies in the top group. Telefónica stood out particularly, receiving the “SAM Gold Class” recognition. Among other Spanish companies, that appeared in the report were Gas Natural, Iberdrola, Iberia and Repsol.
In the breakdown by sectors, PwC and SAM divided telecommunications into mobile and fixed telephony, positioning Telefónica as “Gold Class” in the latter, without taking into account that the company is an integrated operator.
The most important aspects highlighted by the study for fixed telephony communications were brand management, customer relations, data protection, service development, climate change strategy, environmental management policy, operational eco-efficiency, digital inclusion, the impact of telecommunications services, commitment to stakeholders and the supply chain.
