Telefónica supports the 'World Telecommunications and Information Society Day'

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day Telefónica is supporting this year’s ‘World Telecommunication and Information Society Day’ (WTISD). The day will help to raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as, bring ways to bridge the digital divide.

The date, 17 May, marks the anniversary of the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention and the creation of the International Telecommunication Union.

This year, to mark the ‘World Telecommunication and Information Society Day’, the ITU Council adopted the theme: Protecting children in cyberspace. The theme of this year’s WTISD aims to help ensure that children can safely access the Internet and its valuable resources, without fear of falling prey to unscrupulous predators in cyberspace.
