Tackling the future together: Telefónica Deutschland and O2 join forces

Munich. - Telefónica Deutschland and O2 now plan to bundle their business-to-business activities and the operation of their mobile communications and landline infrastructures under the common name of Telefónica O2 Germany. With the new business division and the consolidation of the two network infrastructures, the company is setting its course for a future with further growth and convergent offers. Johannes Pruchnow, up to now the CEO of Telefónica Deutschland, will be the managing director of the new business division. Andrea Folgueiras, CTO at Telefónica O2 Germany, will be in charge of landline operations in addition to her existing responsibilities.

The newly created business division combines the sales and marketing of the business customer offers for small, medium-sized and multinational companies as well as the landline wholesale business, making it a second important mainstay in addition to the O2 consumer business. The new organization offers O2 the opportunity of actively pushing ahead with its strategy for integrated telecommunications. This will also be supported by the consolidation of mobile communications and landlines, the two network areas.

“Thanks to the merger of Telefónica Deutschland and O2, we have a strong landline and mobile communications organization that is able to act and react flexibly to market changes. At the same time, we are securing opportunities for further growth in a convergent world,” comments Jaime Smith Basterra, CEO at Telefónica O2 Germany.

“Offers combining landline and mobile communications are becoming increasingly important, for business customers in particular. The new business division enables us to further expand our portfolio consisting of mobile, Internet access and VPNs. Our successful wholesale business we will continue independently as part of the business to business unit”, says Johannes Pruchnow, CEO at Telefónica Deutschland.

Andrea Folgueiras points out that the restructuring process will create new synergies. “The most important basis is our state-of-the-art IP-based landline and wireless infrastructure. Thanks to the new constellation, we will be able to advance with the merger of these two infrastructures even more quickly than before.” The Verl location will be expanded to become a competence center for landline and IP.
